Musician, producer, composer Quincy Jones would like President Barack Obama to create a cabinet-level Secretary of the Arts. “I have had that idea for a long time now,” said Mr. Jones. “It is just a question of us executing it. I think we need it now more than ever. I really do. There’s science, and then there’s the soul.”
An online petition in support of this proposal has garnered more than 224,000 signatures to date.
A Culture Minister really is a logical addition to this new administration of HopeChange. Who would be a better Arts Secretary than Willie Nelson? He is a country music legend. His $16.7 million back-tax debt was discharged years ago. The marijuana and mushrooms were a mere misdemeanor. Anyway, what celebrity hasn’t been caught with a bong?
Or how about actor Wesley Snipes? He beat the federal tax fraud and conspiracy charges and was only convicted of three misdemeanor counts of failing to file a tax return.
The new Treasury Secretary Timothy Geitner knows full well how easy it is to make a mistake and fail to pay $34,000 in taxes. Health and Human Services Secretary-designate Tom Daschle knows that even a serious mistake like neglecting to pay more than $140,000 in back taxes can happen to anyone.
